10 Kids Books about Adoption

Updated: Sep 23, 2023

For adopted children, understanding and embracing their own adoption journey can be a significant and sometimes complex part of their identity. Books can be powerful tools, offering a safe and comforting space to navigate the emotions and questions that may arise. Adoption stories are as diverse as the families they create.

Have you ever purchased a children's book based on the topical content only to find the messaging isn't quite what you hoped? We've certainly been there :) Not to worry, ASA is here to help!

We've compiled a list of 10 recommendations below - while 9 & 10 are not adoption specific, we think their content is still great and relevant for many adoptive families.

  1. A Place in My Heart by Mary Grossnickle

  2. The Family Book by Todd Parr

  3. It's Okay to be Different by Todd Parr

  4. Adoption is Both by Elena Hall
