About the Event
Whether you are an aspiring babysitter, a caregiver, or someone who wants to support adoptive families, this training will empower you to provide safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed care.Â
One common challenge adoptive families face is finding babysitters and caregivers who are both skilled and sensitive to the unique needs of adoptees. It can be challenging for adoptive parents whose children have difficult behaviors struggle to take time away from their parenting role, even for an evening, due to the limited availability of sitters who are experienced and confident managing difficult behaviors effectively. As a result of caregiver's lack of experience, the children becoming triggered, causing sitters feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable, and parents growing increasingly exhausted. Adoption Support Alliance’s MSW Intern, Annika Urban, is excited to help adoptive families by providing training for babysitters on how to understand trauma and behaviors, and how to approach children with patience, empathy, and compassion.
