ASA in Action: Support-ucation Group?

Updated: Mar 24, 2022

A support group can be a lifesaver! Especially when led by a compassionate therapeutic counselor who brings insight and wisdom. When a group incorporates educational content, it's pure gold.

This fall we are excited to offer a new support group curriculum through a partnership with Creating A Family.  We are so excited about this!  For those of you who don’t know, Creating a Family is the national infertility, adoption & foster care education and support nonprofit.  They have amazing resources on their site including online trainings and a weekly radio show.  They also recently developed a curriculum for support groups and have chosen Adoption Support Alliance to be a pilot program and host groups around this curriculum and provide them feedback, suggestions and praise for the work they have done.

These topics include:

-How ACE's (Adverse Childhood Experiences) affect our kids

-Why neglect is so damaging

-Sensory issues

-Parenting a child who has been sexually abused

-Managing expectations

-Understanding the IEP process

-Impact of prenatal exposure

-Raising resilient kids

To plan the specifics for these groups, we’d like your help.  We want to offer the groups- once a month for 1 ½ hours - at times that work for you.  And, if there is enough interest in these groups, we can have more than one.

So, if you are interested in being a part of the group, please take a few minutes to complete this survey to give us a general sense of your schedule and which topics are most interesting to you.  This won’t commit you to a group- it’ll just help us plan better for a format that works best for you!

We think of these groups as "support-cation" of sorts. Each group will have a teaching time as well as time where Erin will lead the group in a time of sharing and processing.

Please take a minute and let us know your thoughts by filling out the survey. We'd love to walk alongside you in your adoption story. Feel free to email Mary at the office as well: info@adoptionsupportalliance.org
